The days are getting shorter and the snow is falling, and we all know that means ski season is here! We’ve been waiting all year for snow to pour back on the mountains so we can get our skis and boards out and hit the slopes. Our favorite ski areas have been hard at work to make sure that when our skis first hit the powder, we’ll have an enjoyable time. Here are some of the updates that have been made at resorts across New Mexico!
Ski Santa Fe
We know you love spending a day or weekend at Ski Santa Fe, and they want to make sure your favorite runs are operational as much as possible. This year, they’ve added snowmaking capabilities to Gayway and Upper Gayway, meaning you’ll have a smoother ride regardless of the actual snowfall this year. While you’re at it, cruise by Totomoff’s Bar, which you can find mid-mountain. They have also added a tram car for expanded beverage service! We’re never ones to turn down a beverage after a long day skiing or even a quick pit stop mid-run to fuel up! Be sure to grab a drink and spend some great time at Ski Santa Fe with friends.
Taos Ski Valley
Last year, we announced direct flights through Taos Air from Dallas. This year, you can enjoy direct access from your favorite resort to and from Carlsbad-San Diego and Hawthorne-Los Angeles, CA. As an added bonus, you get to fly on a less crowded plane with two free bags (perfect for all your extra gear) and free ski and board rentals at Taos Ski Valley! From the airport, you can easily rent a car of your own or use the ground shuttle in Taos to make it where you need to go.
This year, Camp Bigfoot is changing the game for youth learning to ski. During this progressive ski or ride program, children ages 5 to 12 will participate in four sessions which will provide the best introduction to snow sliding and skill development. A main goal of the program is to spark a passion for snowsports and the mountains in a fun and safe environment. Sipapu regulars can also look forward to continued sales and family-friendly events throughout the season.
If you love having a variety of runs with amazing views, Pajarito is a must-see. Children 10 and younger ski free all season long, perfect for large families. With its snowmaking capabilities, people of all ages can enjoy affordable lift tickets, fun events, and special promotions throughout the season.
Enjoy a delicious meal at 10,300 ft. above sea level at Ten 3, a new restaurant now open at the top of the Sandia Peak. The menu has a variety of options, all made from scratch by distinguished chef, J. Steve Brockman. Make a special occasion to dine at Ten 3, or stop by while skiing, for a great meal and drinks at the mountaintop!
Red River Ski and Summer Area
If Red River is your favorite small town in New Mexico, you are going to love the new snowmaking and grooming improvements this year. In addition to the changes made to their snowmaking systems, they have added a new PistenBully 600 Winch groomer, sure to make your time on the slopes even better. Be sure to check their deals and discounts page for special offers throughout the year.
Ski Apache is best known for its mild winter temperatures and abundance of blue-bird skiing. The mountain’s high elevations, combined with its southerly latitude, gives the resort a unique advantage of seeing abundant snowfall but comfortable weather. This season, Ski Apache is offering three different Stay and Play packages that include hotel accommodations, lift tickets and more with prices starting at $599.
