A few words from the
Editorial Department

Fun, factual, engaging, exciting.

That's the plan for the the editorial content of Slopes! Magazine. A great editorial product addresses a reader's unspoken need and answers an internal question. For readers of Slopes!, they've picked up the magazine because they may be considering a ski vacation, or deciding between a hundred competing vacation options—warm climate resorts, other ski destinations, or even just staying home with the family. With our engaging words, we incite a potential visitor’s imagination and sense of adventure. We give them information, yes, but also a sense of what they'll experience once they arrive here, whether that's our impossibly blue skies against white powder or the joy of a green chile cheeseburger and a locally brewed beer after a long day of skiing.

In addition to editorial features on winter adventures, culinary and shopping highlights, back country and cross country skiing options, as well as other snow-oriented sports, we’ll feature each ski area in narrative form to give readers a sense of how New Mexico's skiing is more intimate, less crowded and just as challenging—or not, depending on a visitor's preference—as other areas. Included in each profile are pertinent facts such as prices, vertical feet and any new chairs or terrain plus a short story about a visitor’s personal experience. Easy-to-access fact boxes allows each ski area to highlight the information they think is most important for potential visitors.

Features for 2008-2009:
  • Why Here?: Main feature which discusses the general nature of winter adventuring in the Land of Enchantment.
  • Aprés-ski: For the lodge-bunny, the non-skiing family member, or just a day off the the slopes, a guide to great shopping and great eating in New Mexico's resort towns.
  • Enchanted Winter: Winter adventures without skies or boards, including sledding, skating and snowmobiling.
  • Ski Enchantment: Three popular Cross Country Ski Areas.
We’re always open to suggestions, ideas, photographs, anecdotes, contributors.
